Official Way to Use Vista without Activation 120 Days

Official Way to Install and Use Windows Vista without Activation for Free for 120 Days

By default, Windows Vista can be installed, used and run without any license, product key or the need of activation for 30 days grace period, for purpose of trial or evaluation. Although Microsoft initially stressed that users should purchase a license with valid product key before the trial period expires, or else Windows Vista will lock into Reduced Functionality Mode. However, a “rearm method has long since been discovered to be able to extend, or reset the remaining time for activation to another fresh 30 days, for up to 3 times.

Now Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Vista can be used and run for 120 days or 4 months (3 rearms), and extending the activation grace period is not a violation of the Vista End User License Agreement (EULA). All versions of Vista include Windows Vista Ultimate allow a 30-day free period without activation, except the corporate-oriented Vista Enterprise, which supports only a three-day trial.

  1. To extend, reset or restart the initial OOB grace period of Windows Vista to another 30 days, use the following steps:

  2. Click on Vista Start button and key in Cmd in Start Search box.
Press on Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open Command Prompt with administrative credentials (equivalent to “Run as Administrator).
  3. In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter when done: slmgr -rearm or you can use sysprep /generalize
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Rearm again when the remaining activation grace period timer counts down to 0 days.

Rearm option resets the computer’s activation timer and reinitializes some activation parameters.

Firefox Loses Browser Share, Safari Gains

According Aliso Viejo, California-based Net Applications’ January 2007 report, Mozilla Firefox has lost browser market share (from 14% to 13.7%) while Apple’s Safari has grown in browser usage (from 4.2% to 4.7%).

For Firefox, this is the first dip since May 2006. “It appears to be a real dip,” not a statistical anomaly, said Vincent Vizzaccaro, Net Applications’ executive vice president of marketing and strategic relationships. Partly based on the open-source Konqueror, Safari previously held 3.1% of the browser market – its growth could indicate a slow but steady increase in Macintosh sales. “The more interesting trend is on the Safari side. It looks like it’s taking share away from browsers in the Windows environment,” said Vizzaccaro.

Windows XP still has an overwhelming lead in operating systems, however, with 85% (Vista was at a mere 0.2% since by then it had only launched to businesses). Microsoft’s Internet Explorer accounted for 79.8% of the browser market in January.

Cisco Sues Apple Over Use of iPhone Name

Cisco Systems Inc. has owned the name “iPhone since 2000 and today announced that it is suing Apple Inc. in federal court. Cisco obtained the trademark by acquiring InfoGear Technology Corp. over 6 years ago, which originally registered the name. It has been three weeks since Cisco’s Linksys division released a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone for which the trademark was put to use. Apple had tried to gain legal rights to use the iPhone name but upon failure chose to unveil their iPhone yesterday anyway, a touch-screen cell phone with music, video, web, voicemail and e-mail capabilities.

“Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco’s iPhone name. There is no doubt that Apple’s new phone is very exciting, but they should not be using our trademark without our permission.” said Mark Chandler, Cisco senior vice president and general counsel.

A Nightmare on CSS Street

ShishaNites.com has required a new website for a while now, one that incorporates the look and feel of TheShishaShop.com’s site (as it is afterall a spin-off). To make the site easy to update however, it was decided that a simple CMS should be used to easily control the content (using Pages) and blog format for the Latest News section.

With the introduction of the latest version of WordPress (2.1), it is now possible to set any page as the homepage, not to mention 550 bug fixes, it qualifys as the selected package.

So work was underway to work on a new template system. Luckily, the Wordpress template site features a huge amount of freely downloadable pre-made templates. A few where chosen that closly matched the 3 column system required and the editing process had begun.

It was clear at this point however that WordPress uses CSS extensively to layout the site. This has its advantages as well as its disadvantages, especially as the rest of the portal is based around tables, keeping consistency may cause a slight problem… Once this section is complete, it may lead for the rest of the portal to become completely CSS based allowing fo more lighter code, however thats something to persist in in the future.

But what is life without problems? First CSS issue came up within the footerwrap tag, defineing a fixed height was proving to be very difficult within a cross browser environment, i.e. IE (pun intended). Luckily, Google came to the rescue with a link to the Prop-Clear: CSS min-height hack

In normal use, the prop will extend beyond the bottom of the box because floated elements are partially removed from the flow of the document. I say “partially” because there is still a way we can use the floated element to determine how high the enclosing element should be. The way is to add the next part of this hack: something for our prop to push down on. We need the overflow:hidden; style since MSIE refuses to automatically make div tags less than 1em high when in Standards Compatible mode.

Lets see if we bump into any more CSS problems anytime soon, its still early in the theming process :D

SERP for TheShishaShop.com

Just checking the Search Engine Results Pages for TheShishaShop.com and it seems that the term “shisha flavours” gets good ranking as follows:

Engine         Rank
Yahoo          2
Yahoo UK     1
Google         15
Google UK    9
MSN            22
MSN UK       18

Please note, by UK this is meant that search results are filtered to only include results from UK.

Abit of work is still required to optimise Google and MSN, but this should be achieveable when the new front end gets installed.

Google PR Update
A check on Page Rank here confirms that VSNetwork has been given a PR of 1, its just that not every Google PR server has this updated, nevermind, its a start!

Google PR Screwed Up?

Less than a day passes after receiving a Google Page Rank 1 and what happens? It’s taken away! Curses and other blocked words are again being directed towards Google for once again screwing us over!

SITES UPDATE
Because of a lack of time, updates were not made to many sites including the and domains that have recently a lot of traffic from SERP based on searches for Valentines Day related keywords. Essentially, this is a big blow but what is clear is that these domains can be used for either online ecommerce stores selling adult related gifts, clothing lines, fragrances etc… or use as an affiliate hub… Or maybe, one for each? With some SEO and promotion, this could work. Valentines is too late now, however, Amazon aStore may be the solution for the short term here…

Tokyo Drift has been getting steady traffic since its inception, sadly since Google killed the Adsense account a while back, most of the traffic had been wasted, well a new Adsense account that had been sitting dormant for quite a while was activated and within a day was converting. A closer look at the domain and what could be added to improve the ROI is clear, more pages, more content, more targeted ads including ebay, Amazon, Itunes and adsense! The Fast and the Furious universe includes 3 movies, 3 soundtracks, possible spin-offs and not forgetting biographies, cast news, RSS feeds and more. The idea is, once the site is complete, automate the process so that news is added every other day automatically. This could potentially be used as a template for a lot more projects…

VSNetwork will get a face lift soon as it is a bit over due now, Site links will be added to the main page to prvide more back links for all other sites, this should improve SERPS, thats the theory anyway.

Finally, Google PR1 for VSNetwork

Well it’s certainly not the greatest achievement but it can certainly be said, “about bloody time!”. The Blog has been quiet for some time with focus more on news articles than actual news of projects that are being worked on. In fairnesses, alot of the projects are on hold.

Sadly, the main ambitions were lost, for a while at least, but now are back. So what exactly is the goal? To create and document the online Property Portfolio of Websites under the Virtual Solutions Network.

These sites will be a combination of brand new sites built from scratch, addresses niche areas, while others will use turnkey systems as the core with fresh content built around them. Finally, there will also be sites that are purchased for redevelopment and resale. Look out for more fresh updates for this site as they are posted including information on the t status of the current portfolio.

The goal is to also add fresh articles on Promotional techniques and SEO, as these tools will essentially market the sites and build their popularity.
